Márton Elekes: The generic connected abelian group is the universal solenoid

Abstract: We show that in the space of compact metrisable connected abelian groups the isomorphism class of the so called universal solenoid is comeagre. We also discuss the Pontryagin dual: the generic countable discrete torsion-free abelian group is the additive group of the rational numbers. Joint work with U. B. Darji, T. Kátay, A. Kocsis and M.
